But the central government does not have any data on these layoffs. In a statement given in the Rajya Sabha, the government has said that no data is kept with the central government regarding layoffs in these sectors. The government told the house that the issue related to retrenchment in multinational, Indian IT companies, social media to ad tech companies and related sectors comes under the jurisdiction of the state governments.

In fact, a question was asked to the Ministry of Labor in the Rajya Sabha regarding the large-scale retrenchment being done in different sectors. Rajya Sabha MP AA Rahim questioned the government whether the central government has taken cognizance of the layoffs being done in multinational, Indian IT companies, social media to ad tech companies and related sectors? He demanded to share the number of workers who lost their jobs in the retrenchment. He also asked the government whether it would intervene to stop such large-scale retrenchments in the future.

Answering this question in writing, Labor Minister Bhupendra Yadav said that the central government does not have any data related to retrenchment in these sectors. He said that the issue related to retrenchment in these companies is under the jurisdiction of the state governments. However, he said that if any type of retrenchment is not done under the rules of the Industrial Disputes Act, then that retrenchment is completely illegal.
