Todd Murphy Test Debut: Right-arm off-spinner Todd Murphy is just 22 years old. He had played only 7 first class matches before coming on India tour. Cricket experts had little hope of seeing this player in the playing-11 for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. But here Todd Murphy not only made it to the first match but also wreaked havoc with his bowling.
Todd Murphy sent KL Rahul to the pavilion on the first day of the Nagpur Test and then put the Indian team in trouble on the second day by taking the wickets of R Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and KS Bharat. However, now the Indian team has strengthened its hold in this test, but discussions about this explosive test debut of Todd Murphy are happening everywhere.
‘I will always be proud of this’
After the match, when Todd Murphy was asked about his performance, he said, ‘These two days were wonderful. Getting a chance to make a Test debut and then getting 5 wickets, all this is beyond my expectation. I will be proud when I remember this test for the rest of my life.
Todd Murphy further says, ‘I have not bowled in front of many people yet, but I feel that Indian batsmen run their hands very well in front of spin. Bowling in front of them is a big challenge.
‘Touring Sri Lanka with Australia-A was the turning point’
On getting a chance to make his Test debut only after 7 first class matches, Todd Murphy says, ‘The Sri Lankan tour played the biggest role for me to reach here. I got a chance to go there with the Australia A team. There I got some success, which boosted my confidence. Being around players who have played Test cricket, watching them closely, bowling to them in the nets and then bowling to the Sri Lankan batsmen. All this gave me a lot of confidence. I started trusting myself with that confidence and my game kept getting better.
