WPL Auction 2023: In the first auction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) held on Tuesday (February 13), a lot of money was showered on the players. 5 franchise teams spent a total of Rs 59.50 crore on 87 players. Here there were 20 players who got more than one crore. The interesting thing is that the salary of 15 out of these 20 players is more than that of Babar Azam, who got the most expensive price in Pakistan Super League.
The highest salary in Pakistan Super League is given to the players in the Platinum category. Players in this category can get a maximum salary of up to $1.7 lakh (Rs 1.40 crore). Many big players like Shaheen Afridi and Rizwan are included in this category including Babar Azam.
Here, for the first time when the Women’s Premier League auction was held, the price of 15 players crossed the maximum limit of this platinum category of Pakistan. Smriti Mandhana, Ashley Gardner and Natalie Siever were some of the players whose prices exceeded the salary of Babar Azam by two and a half times. Regarding this, memes were also made on social media.
Given the salary differences between PSL and WPL, I am sure Babar Azam won’t mind playing in WPL if given the opportunity. His strike rate also perfectly suits women’s cricket.
